My name is Gergo Nemeth. In the past 10 years, I have worked on typesetting, visual editing the texts of numerous books, magazines and other publications.
Since some of my clients don't have a publisher, I often help the process until it is fully done, produced, printed. So, in addition to typesetting, I often help with the selection of proofreaders, coordination with the printing press, and anything else between my client's vision and realization.
Typesetting / Publication Editing
Half of my assignments are specifically about typesetting.
This starts with me receiving the finalized text, reviewing it and discussing it thoroughly with the client.
In order to ensure that my client gets the result he desires, I often perform a complete analysis of well-known and lesser-known books and publications similar to his idea, in order to filter out desirable or undesirable elements.
Based on all of this, I prepare the first visual plans. This will be reviewed by the client, and I will amend it if necessary.
I will prepare the entire book or publication based on the finalized publication plan and send it to my client.
From Manuscript to the Finished Book
The other half of my assignments are not just about typesetting, but I help the process from the raw manuscript/text to printing.
In such cases, I find the best proofreader for the task, whether it is a storybook, a novel, a magazine or even a techical book.
If an illustration is needed, I involve the appropriate illustrator in the work, who creates the graphics in a style that matches the content and the customer likes.
I personally do the typesetting in this case as well, to guarantee the quality.
I can assist in the coordination with the selected printing house, so that there are no misunderstandings between my client and the printing contractor and that the final book looks as the customer imagined.
